Initiative of the Syngrou Network for the Environment and Sustainable Development

The members of the Network of Educational and Cultural Institutions of Syngrou Avenue and Local Government join our forces in an action plan for the environment and sustainable development. As the negative effects of climate change are accelerating, no one can be indifferent.

Particularly, our country with its rich cultural heritage and beautiful natural environment must play an active role in the global effort to prevent the worst impacts of climate change, while at the same time creating a paradigm of sustainable development.
Our goal is to inform and activate the citizens and to coordinate the activities of the participants in the Syngrou network to promote environmental and quality of life upgrading solutions. We thus hope that we will, to the best of our abilities, contribute to the wider effort for Greece to respond to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.#

Starting with our participation in the European Week of Waste Reduction (16-23 November 2019), we seek to develop actions in the following sections:

  1. Cultural events and environmental awareness activities that will culminate on June 5th each year. This day is designated World Environment Day.
  2. Development and implementation of vocational training and lifelong learning programs on the environment and sustainable development.
  3. Organizing symposiums and international meetings on the specification of policies and measures on social economic and environmental sustainability.
  4. Contributing to the preparation and application of Local Agenda 21 by the municipalities of the area.
  5. Cooperation in the field of research and exploitation of new information and communication technologies.
  6. Development of volunteering.
  7. Utilization of international collaborations and the creation of a summer school about the environment and sustainable development.
  8. Promoting renewable energy actions, green buildings and sustainable mobility.
  9. Sharing experience convergence and coordination with similar actions in the wider capital region.

Culture is the main cohesive tissue of every society.

Local government serves citizens' needs and experiences their anxieties. The enormous challenges we face today require knowledge of the problems, activating citizens, and most importantly wide cooperation. This is the key message of the initiative of the Network of Educational and Cultural Institutions of Syngrou Avenue and Local Government for the Environment and Sustainable Development.
